The Spring Cub Scout Family camp was conducted at Camp Fawcett with a theme of Cinco de Mayo, with an attendance of approximately 175 youth and adults. This camp was chaired by Carl Frentz.
While most events did not start until the official opening at 12:00, Tony Perez, the range master, opened the Archery range at 9:00 AM and then the BB range at 12:30 and then reopened the Archery range at 3 PM. That event station stayed busy all day.
At 10 AM the camp director led a group of cubs and adults on a 45 minute hike up to Maddux Mound. This qualified everyone for the hike portion of the hiking belt loop.
Also in the morning we opened the photo opportunity event. The cubs and their adult (or a group) could pose for a picture while wearing sombreros and other props with the beautiful Nueces River as their backdrop. A quality 4 x 6 print was produced and later in crafts they could decorate a frame to put the picture into.
The scouts participated in various games and worked on handicrafts of Gods Eyes, Gecko Sun Catchers and the aforementioned picture frame. The games and other events closed at 5 PM and dinner was enjoyed in the campsites. At 7:30 a closing ceremony was held, followed by a campfire with skits and songs presented by various packs.
Sunday morning we held a Scouts Own in the Campfire ring. Then everyone departed for home by 11 AM on May 6th.
